Bio
Ami Sobin (formerly Shah) is the Deputy Director for Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) and Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS). Ami is responsible for a wide range of activities including managing and growing the Partners For Access (PACC) network designed to increase full-tuition scholarships for students from low-income backgrounds, strengthening external relations to broaden program awareness and networking with key stakeholders, strategizing campaigns to increase the program’s mission for educational access, and playing a key role in YYGS Admissions. Ami works closely with the YYAS team to develop and implement the online and residential programs. She also played a large role in running the YYGS sessions in Beijing and Singapore, as well as the YYAS sessions in Ghana, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.
Prior to her current position, she worked as a communications officer in the Office of International Affairs managing country specific enewsletters, the Yale and World website, YaleGlobal Online communications, and heavy marketing for the Yale Publishing Course. Earlier in her career, she was a project coordinator for Certificates of Origin at the International Chamber of Commerce, World Chambers Federation in Paris, France. She received her Masters of Global Communications from the American University of Paris and, during this time, she had the opportunity to study and volunteer with an NGO in India. Ami has traveled extensively throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America. During her free time, she loves trying out new recipes for her family, both savory and sweet, and spending quality time with friends and extended family.
